Her Sound, Her Story features conversations with more than 45 artists spanning six decades of Australian music, including Tina Arena, Julia Stone, Eleanor Dixon, Nai Palm and many more. Together they unveil the personal, historical and social legacies of an incredible journey. Conceived and conducted by Melbourne artists and storytellers Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore and Michelle Grace Hunder, the film is an optimistic portrayal of the power of creativity over adversity. In looking to the future, it aims to inspire the next generation of young women to new and unprecedented aspirations.

In a survey of unprecedented scope, the film documents women of diverse ages, genres, sexual orientations, ethnicity and careers across many facets of industry. Through interviews, animations, music and text, the film aims to highlight positive messaging and spark social change, to tear down stigmas and continue women's current, historic push to the forefront.

Her Sound, Her Story navigates the unique challenges faced by women and sounds a collective voice beyond perceived boundaries of style, age and race. Through the inspiration of unique stories and shared experience, the documentary provides a platform of solace and nurtures a deeper sense of connective community. You can view the HSHS trailer HERE

To make this night even more special we are teaming up with No Light No Lycra Point Lonsdale who will curate an ALL Australian, ALL female music playlist featuring artists from the film. What better way to celebrate Australian women in music than switching off the lights and having a mega DANCE to their incredible tunes.

Jen Cloher

We are deeply honoured that Jen Cloher has chosen to share her exceptional talent with us at New Hall on Friday 14 June. The reviews are in - Cloher's self titled album is being acclaimed as her most incisive, witty, cutting and poetic, possibly representing her most stunning body of work to date. Jen will be joined on the evening by fellow MILK records artist, Hachiku.

‘An evening with Jen Cloher at New Hall’ is sure to be one of those events that will be talked about for years to come. Needless to say this show will sell out in a flash so don't snooze friends.

“ A modern day Patti Smith whose brutally honest, politically charged lyrics mark her out as one of the most interesting and important artists of her day” The Independent ( UK)

We are delighted to be launching our new winter storytelling series Porchlight, hosted by local creative and storyteller Kirsty Montgomery. These evenings inspired by The Moth are dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling and the belief that EVERYONE has a story. Participants have 8 mins to share their story. No notes, no props just you and the audience! The theme for Porchlight Part 1 is ‘stuck’. We can’t wait to hear your story.
